I have been coordinating trips to Ghana for over 24 years, however, Nkrabea Homecoming Tours was officially established in 2017 to capture the essence and transformative nature of the pilgrimage experience.
Our mission is to curate Homecoming experiences by engaging the people, traditions, stories, sounds and rhythms of Ghana. Through the return home, our collective focuses on connecting to the historical roots, culture and memories of our Ancestors.
"Nkrabea" is an Adinkra Symbol. Adinkra symbols are motifs that use reflective symmetry and express deeply symbolic proverbs related to life, death, wisdom, and human behavior. There are well over 100 symbols that capture the deep wisdom of West Africa. The Adinkra Symbol "Nkrabea" speaks to the soul's destiny. Thus, Nkrabea Homecoming Pilgrimage is a sojourn home for African Ancestry people yearning to touch the soil of the Motherland...Africa.
Ghana, a modern country, known as the gateway to Africa, offers an opportunity to explore the rich history, culture, traditions, art, people, and the beautiful beaches and landscapes of West Africa. The people of Ghana have a reputation for welcoming and treating its visitors, particularly Africans from the Diaspora, with great hospitality.

Ghana, a country on the West Coast of Africa, is one of the most thriving democracies on the continent. It has often been referred to as an "island of peace". It shares boundaries with Togo to the east, Cote d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north and the Gulf of Guinea, to the south.
The country's economy is dominated by agriculture, which employs about 40 percent of the working population. Ghana is one of the leading exporters of cocoa in the world. It is also a significant exporter of commodities such as gold and lumber. A country covering an area of 238,500 square kilometers , Ghana has an estimated population of over 32 million, drawn from more than one hundred ethnic groups - each with its own unique language. English, however, is the official language, a legacy of British colonial rule.
In 1957, Ghana (formerly known as the Gold Coast) became the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to gain independence. After leading the country for nine years, the nation's founding president, Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown in a coup d’état in 1966. After Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana was ruled by a series of military dictators with intermittent experiments with democratic rule, most of which were curtailed by military takeovers. The latest and most enduring democratic experiment started in 1992 and it is what has gained recognition for Ghana as a leading democracy in Africa. However, Ghana is still heavily impacted by the transatlantic slave trade; colonialism; theft of natural resources; continued western domination and importation of European ideas, religion and educational policies.
